How Many Players Does BOMBANANA! Need?
Exactly three. Two is not a harder mode — it is a broken team, and there is no solo mode to fall back on.
BOMBANANA! is built for exactly three players. The official store page describes a “3-player co-op team”, and the three roles — blind, deaf and mute monkey — are fixed positions. There is no solo mode and no two-player mode. If you only have two people, you do not have a harder version of the game; you have an empty seat that no one can read.
Player count at a glance
| Players | Supported | What actually happens |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | No | No solo mode — two of the three information sets would be missing |
| 2 | No | One role cannot be covered; the bomb cannot be fully read or fully operated |
| 3 | Yes | The intended team: one blind, one deaf, one mute monkey |
| 4+ | Not documented | The official page describes a 3-player team; no 4-player mode is announced |
Why two players cannot cover three roles
The game splits information on purpose. The blind monkey can touch the bomb but cannot see colours or screens. The deaf monkey can see everything but hears nothing. The mute monkey is the only player who can read the manual and cannot say what it says. Remove one seat and the remaining two players have to be eyes, hands and manual at the same time — which is exactly the split the game exists to prevent. See the roles breakdown for what each seat can and cannot do.
Is there a solo mode?
No. Nothing in the official description or the patch notes introduces a solo or practice mode. Custom mode changes bomb difficulty, the timer, module types, hazards and the mistake limit — it does not change the team size. If you are alone, the honest answer is that this is a three-person game and you need two friends.
Finding a third player
- Matchmaking was added in v1.0.2 (official patch notes), so you can fill a missing seat with a stranger instead of cancelling the evening.
- Lobby codes are the reliable route with friends: v1.0.2 also added hide/reveal controls for lobby codes, which is how you keep a code out of a public stream.
- Communities — the official Discord and r/bombananagame are where people look for a third monkey outside their friend group.
Platforms
The game ships for Windows and Mac on Steam, with full controller support and Steam Deck play. The official pages do not announce console or mobile versions, so plan your trio around PC.
